Coon River

$300.00

Oil on canvas, unframed.

9” X 12” X 7/8”

I painted this while I was an artist-in-residence at Whiterock Conservancy in Coon Rapids, Iowa. The Middle Raccoon River runs through the conservancy and is located very closely to the resident artist’s home, River House. This painting is based on a photo I took of the river that I later painted in the studio. The color of the expansive, endless big blue sky is elegantly reflected in the tranquil, meandering river, creating a mesmerizing symphony of natural beauty. Along the riverbank, the imposing, dark shadows cast by the trees define a distinct perimeter, a sharp contrast against the vivid sky and the landscape below. The winter beige grass, brittle and dry, mingles with patches of fresh green grass just beginning to sprout, adding a delicate touch of rejuvenation to the serene scenery.
